The autonomous communities administer the third dose of the covid vaccine to immunosuppressed

The Public Health Commission of the Ministry of Health has approved this Tuesday the administration of a third dose of the covid vaccine to patients in “situation of serious immunosuppression”, and has emphasized that a booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is not recommended for the general population at this time.

The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has announced that as of this Thursday, September 9, the cautonomous communities can begin to inoculate the additional dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Carolina Darias has recalled that this additional dose is indicated for people with solid organ transplant (It is estimated that there are about 60,000 in Spain), hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients (around 20,000) and sick in treatment with certain drugs, for a total of about 100,000 patients.

According to the Minister of Health, the autonomous communities will determine which patients will receive the third dose of the covid vaccine and will they will contact them, because they are the ones who have identified them.

Third dose vaccination strategy

Regarding the coronavirus vaccination strategy, Carolina Darias has said that a new stage begins after announcing the additional dose, and has added that the Covid-19 vaccine presentation will evaluate next weekAfter analyzing the scientific evidence, the convenience of extending the inoculation of this additional serum to this group.

The head of Health has insisted that it is an additional dose designed for groups that need more reinforcement, but not for the rest of the population.
