Tondela and Benfica B drew 1-1, in the match that opened the 2nd round of Liga 2, which took place on the afternoon of this Friday, at Estádio Municipal de Aveiro – a home loaned to Beira, since the stadium’s pitch João Cardoso, in Tondela, is being intervened.
The reds came in better, who opened the scoring after 16 minutes: Diego Moreira’s frontal shot, the ball bounced off Manu Hernando and Luís Semedo, opportunely, shot into the back of Babacar Niasse’s goal net.
The Beira response, however, was not long in coming, and the equalizer arrived shortly after the 25th minute: Tiago Almeida’s long throw-in, Manu Hernando’s deflection to the first post and Daniel dos Anjos, at the entrance of the small area, touched to 1 -1.
The second stage was (much) more intense than spectacular, and the mission of the young eagles became more complicated after the 64th minute, after Diego Moreira was sent off. The young winger – who has been working with the main squad this season and who has even been released by Roger Schmidt in the second leg of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, against Midtjylland – saw the second yellow card and left his team reduced to 10 players.
Despite the final pressure from Tondela, the truth is that Tozé Marreco’s men were no longer able to find the right path towards Samuel Soares’ goal, which meant that the result did not suffer any further changes.
With this tie, Tondela now has 4 points, provisionally assuming the leadership of Liga 2, while Benfica B reaches 2 points. On the next round, the Beirão team will play again as hosts (again in Aveiro), welcoming Covilhã, in a match scheduled for 6 pm next Friday. Benfica B will host Estrela da Amadora next Wednesday at 11 am.
