Discourse grand coalition which was echoed after the breaking of the fast with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the political party leaders last April is slowly disappearing. The discourse on the grand coalition dimmed after the PDIP declared Ganjar Pranowo as their presidential candidate.
Political observer from Paramadina University, Khoirul Umam said, the current position Jokowi already different. Some time ago Jokowi was still trying to marry the PDI-P and other parties within the Palace.
Jokowi tried to do this with the composition of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. Umam felt that this was also the reason that during the harvest season in Kebumen, the narrative that appeared was not Ganjar-Prabowo but Prabowo-Ganjar.
However, Umam saw, when Megawati Soekarnoputri answered directly to the efforts of the five parties to encircle the PDI-P, Jokowi seemed disoriented. Jokowi’s design to combine the strengths of PDIP and five other parties was not achieved.
Therefore, Umam believes, currently Jokowi is trying to renegotiate, trying to make a compromise in marrying Ganjar Pranowo and Prabowo Subianto. Or, try the reverse composition of Prabowo and Ganjar.
“If that doesn’t work, because after all if the composition is Ganjar-Prabowo, then Gerindra’s electability has the potential to experience a significant major correction,” Umam said to RepublicWednesday (10/5).
He considered that if Gerindra thought again, they would most likely not take that option. What’s more, if you take a closer look, many of the parties that yesterday announced the grand coalition were angry over this condition.
“The anger, the context, it turns out that Pak Jokowi’s supernatural powers are not as imagined before,” said Umam.
Moreover, when Megawati vetoed it, it was clear that Jokowi could do nothing. That said, Umam revealed, Prabowo was so angry that he vowed to build a very strong coalition to face PDIP in 2024.
“What Jokowi can do now is deadlock breaker, is it possible, of course, but it’s not easy because there is a very big political ego,” said Umam.
Previously, Deputy Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Jazilul Fawaid, admitted that a grand coalition would be difficult to realize. Because, according to him, to equalize the views of the three major political parties is not easy and requires a long time.
“It is not easy to find a common ground for parties whose chairman generally has great potential to enter the presidency and cawapres,” said Jazilul Lewar in a ballot message, Monday (8/5/2023).
Currently, PKB and the Gerindra Party have established political cooperation through the Great Indonesia Awakening Coalition (KKIR). The two also agreed to establish communication with other political parties in order to gain greater power.
“So PKB is roughly what dynamics the situation so that the dynamics of the art have precise results. Moreover, later it will be agreed that there will be a large coalition,” said Jazilul.
“Right now, we are working together with Gerindra, but this cooperation is also allowed to embrace other parties,” continued the MPR deputy chairman.
The former chairman of the Golkar Party who is also the 10th and 12th Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla or JK expressed his views regarding the discourse on forming a grand coalition. According to him, it is a good idea, although its realization will not be easy.
“In political practice, of course it’s not easy to put everything together. This idea is good, but the real implementation certainly requires a lot of effort,” said JK at his residence, Jakarta, Thursday (4/5/2023) evening.
He himself has his own views regarding the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres). The former vice president of Jokowi believes that three or four pairs of presidential candidates and vice presidential candidates (cawapres) will participate in the upcoming contest.
“We’ll see when I see that a point of view is formed, whether there are still four or three candidates, that will happen,” said JK.
