‘La Lectura’ received this Thursday, in the hands of its director, Maite Ricoand the director of EL MUNDO, Joaquin Mansohe LIBER Award for the Promotion of Reading in the Media granted by the Federation of Editors’ Guilds of Spain (FGEE).
It was at an event held at the headquarters of the Ortega-Marañón Foundation, in Madrid, attended by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Hector Gomez Hernandez; the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida; the president of Acción Cultural Española, José Andrés Torres Mora; the Deputy Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid, Daniel Martinez Rodriguez; and the delegate of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Madrid City Council, Marta María Rivera de la Cruz.
EL MUNDO’s magazine was recognized last June through a note from the FGEE that highlighted “both the choice of its name and the careful attention it pays to editorial news, the brilliance of its presentation and the fact that it has become, Despite his youth, a reference in the literary and cultural world».
In his speech and thanks, Rico highlighted that “releasing a cultural magazine on paper, as EL MUNDO proposed in mid-2021, seemed reckless. The bet, however, has been worth it. Despite “having very solid competition, ‘La Lectura’ has managed to open its space among cultural supplements,” added the director of the magazine, who wanted to remind the editors of “a mix of businessmen and humanists, gold seekers in the literary mountains, whose centuries-old work gives meaning to our existence.
At the event, led by journalist Pepa Fernández, the writer Elvira Lindo was also recognized as the most outstanding Latin American author. Casa del Libro received the Boixareu Ginesta Award for Bookseller of the Year, while the screenwriter José Luis Martín was in charge of collecting the Award for the best adaptation of a literary work for the series Doctor García’s Patients, based on the work of Almudena Grandes . The Madrid City Council Library Network completed the list of winners. This year’s honoree at the LIBER awards was the editor Joaquín Sabaté, founder of Ediciones Urano.
