DThe first football professionals of the New England Patriots have renounced a possible visit to the White House after the Super Bowl triumph. In the case of an invitation by US President Donald Trump, he will not join the team, defender Devin McCourty, 31, told local parties after returning to Foxborough.
Even the twin brother Jason tends to a personal refusal. "I have not thought about it yet, but I strongly doubt it," said McCourty. The Patriots had won the Super Bowl for the sixth time with a 13-3 win in the NFL Los Angeles Rams final on Sunday in Atlanta.
Defender Duron Harmon said he would reject an invitation. "You do not want me at the White House," said the 28-year-old Internet portal "tmz.com" as a reason. Harmon would like it if the Patriots, as the last NBA Golden State Warriors, visited the former president Barack Obama instead. "It would be a drug, Obama can call me, we love you here."
It is tradition that the American president invites the winning teams of the important sports championship to the White House. When the Patriots took the title the last time two seasons ago, some players have established their lack of Trump policy. Also the star quarterback Tom Brady, actually a good friend of the president, had not been there and had given personal reasons. Trump had relegated the NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles last year because a large number of players wanted to stay away.
