The footballers have to wait the longest

On the way back to normal, the sport should go ahead. Vice Chancellor and Minister of Sport Werner Kogler held out exceptions for athletes so that they could start their training. From when new rules could take effect, Kogler could not say. “I hope it will be in the near future, in the next few weeks.”

The easing of the ban on entering sports facilities would come gradually and at the behest of the Ministry of Health. This would be the case with contact-intensive indoor sports later than with outdoor sports that generate less contact, such as tennis. The football fans have to wait longer.

According to Kogler, the idea of small group training is being pursued for the professional sector. Such an interim solution sounds “not implausible” to the former youth player of the Bundesliga club Sturm Graz. It is already being implemented in Germany. At Bayern Munich, David Alaba starts again today. According to a report by the “kicker”, the professionals are divided into four groups. These should be picked up at intervals in the underground car park on the club premises and brought to several cabins. Afterwards, training takes place in different places. The players should then take a shower and eat at home.

Professional training after Easter?

Austria’s player union VdF has already received opinions on how much lead time the professionals would need to be prepared for a restart of the championship. According to VdF chairman Gernot Zirngast, the first units would be the ideal case immediately after Easter, should the competitions be able to continue from May.

Rescue package

The financial aid for sports should start in the week after Easter. According to Kogler, it could be “a few hundred million” that will be reserved as part of the Federal Government’s 38 billion euro program to combat the consequences of corona. Even if the aid packages first have to be tied up, Kogler made a clear commitment by the government to sport and its economic and social importance. With 15,000 clubs in the country and two million members, “nobody should be left behind”.
