The giant asteroid 2020 ND flies past Earth today

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has warned that a massive asteroid is approaching Earth and will fly past our planet on July 24th.

It is the largest object that will approach Earth in the coming months. According to the calculations, it will approach the earth after about 5 million kilometers.

The asteroid named “2020 ND” was also classified by the US space agency as a “potentially dangerous” asteroid (PHA) because it could threaten and damage the planet – should the trajectory change even slightly.

In one Statement by the space agency All orbits with a minimum orbit crossing distance (MOID) of 0.05 astronomical units (au) or less would fly along Earth as PHAs.

The asteroid that is due to fly past on July 24 is in between 140 and 300 meters long and passes the planet at a distance of 0.034 au, which corresponds to 5.086.328 kilometers.

2020 ND is not visible to the naked eye. If you are lucky, you can observe the comet Neowise in the sky. Pictures of the long-tailed figure have also been seen on social media for over 2 weeks.

Neowise has been losing clarity since Thursday.
