Irakli Kobakhidze, head of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, thanked the security officials who took part in the arrest of the leader of the opposition United National Movement party Nika Melia. About it reports Georgian portal iPress.
“We thank the Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri and every police officer who, without exaggeration, set an example of a rather complex operation that protects the dignity of the state and ensures the observance of the law,” Kobakhidze said.
In his speech, he named Melia, as well as other oppositionists – ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, former acting head of state Nino Burjanadze, ex-general director of the Rustavi 2 TV channel Nika Gvaramiya and others – “new Bolsheviks” who “again opposed the Georgian state.”
Kobakhidze called the operation to detain oppositionists countering radicals, enforcing the law and maintaining a democratic constitutional order.
