The loading mission to the space station is scheduled for launch this week

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. – An unmanned cargo rocket is scheduled to explode this week from the Virginia coast to the International Space Station.

The Daily Press reports that the launch is scheduled shortly before 5:00 on Thursday at the Wallops Island spaceport along the east coast. The unmanned Cygnus freighter carries 7,500 pounds of food, hardware and research.

One of the scientific experiments on board will explore how the universe was formed by star dust. Another will explore the pathology of Parkinson's disease. Another is the sustainable manufacture and repair of plastics in long space missions.

NASA TV will broadcast the launch on its website starting at 4:15 pm. Visitors will be able to watch the launch from the grounds and stands of the NASA Visitor Center.
