On May 1st, at the event in Fucecchio, there will also be some relatives of Luana D’Orazio, the 22-year-old who lost her life two years ago while working on a warping machine in a textile company in Montemurlo. Before the procession organized and promoted by the CGIL on the occasion of Labor Day, there will, in fact, also be a moment of reflection dedicated to the ever-present theme of accidents in the workplace.
The representatives of the Spi Cgil of Fucecchio, together with the provincial Anmil of Florence and the Municipality of Fucecchio, will lay a laurel wreath in front of the monument dedicated to the victims of work in Piazza XX Settembre. A monument that, thanks to the competition promoted every year in schools by Anmil and the municipal administration, the students of Fucecchio wanted to name it after Luna D’Orazio, calling it ‘Luana, life and work’. Safety will therefore be one of the workers’ rights on which the Fucecchio demonstration will focus its attention, which will begin in Piazza XX Settembre at 9 with the concentration of participants and the setting up of the floats that will parade through the streets of the town. At 10.30 the departure of the procession, preceded by the musical band and at 11.30 the rally in Piazza Montanelli which will also be attended by the mayor Alessio Spinelli and which will be closed by the intervention of Fabio Berni of the secretariat of the CGIL Toscana.
“Safety in the workplace – explains the deputy mayor of Fucecchio, Emma Donnini – is a theme on which in our city, thanks to the commitment of Anmil and the municipal administration, we have been working for many years with students of all age, with the aim of creating an increasingly necessary culture of safety in our country, as demonstrated by the news of these days.The presence of Luana’s family members will make the beginning of this day an even more special moment and for this we want thank them for choosing once again to be present in Fucecchio”. On the occasion of Labor Day, Monday from 7.30 to 12, some changes to the road system will be in force with some bans on transit and parking from 7.30 to 12. In particular in Piazza XX Settembre and Piazza Montanelli, which will also be prohibited for authorized at the end of the meeting.
