According to the daily Vesti, the leaders of the churches operating in Ukraine are ready to abandon their claims on the position of head of the new Ukrainian church, which will receive autocephaly from the Ecumenical Patriarchate
Petro Poroshenko and the patriarch of the UOC-KP Filaret
Primates of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church The Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP) and the Ukrainian autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) Filarete and Macarius addressed letters to the Patriarchate of Constantinople, recognizing the refusal to appoint their candidates for the post of head of the Orthodox Church of new constitution in Ukraine. This writes the Ukrainian edition of "Vesti", citing a source from the small circle of metropolitan Macario.
Macarius, according to the source Vesti, wrote a letter to the patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, in which he stated that he would not present his candidacy for the office of head of the ecclesiastical structure, which could be created in Ukraine. Moreover, Macario noticed that he did not consider the representatives of the episcopate of the churches existing in Ukraine worthy candidates for the post of head of the new church. He asked Bartholomew to identify one of the hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Constantinople as a candidate for the post of head of the new church. According to Vesti, we are talking about Archbishop Job (Gechi) and Exarch Daniel (Zelinsky).
A new ecclesiastical structure can be created after the council of the bishops of the UOC-KP, the UAOC and part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (controlled by the Russian Orthodox Church). The cathedral date is not programmed.
According to Vesti, Patriarch Filarete, head of the UOC-KP, also wrote a letter to the ecumenical patriarch Bartholomew announcing his readiness to withdraw his candidacy for the post of head of the new church. In return, he asked to be named "honorary patriarch" and head of the Holy Synod of the new church, and to appoint the patriarchal governor of the UOC-KP, the metropolitan Epiphanius, as head of the church itself. According to Vesti, Makarii called himself "ex metropolitan" in a letter, while Filaret signed as "archbishop".
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also has his candidate for the head of the new church, this is the metropolis of Vinnitsa and Barsky Simeon (UOC MP).
At the same time, the source of the publication noted that the Ecumenical Patriarchate may hold a constituent council, and not a unifying council, in which a representative of the Patriarchate of Bartholomew will preside. The interviewee notes that the new Ukrainian church may not have the status of patriarchy and that after the delivery of the autocephaly it will be controlled by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
