The ministry authorized the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine up to the age of 65

The Ministry of Health has published a circular authorizing the administration of the vaccine AstraZeneca for people up to 65 years old: until now it was only allowed up to the age of 55. The extension was decided “on the basis of new scientific evidence that reports vaccine efficacy estimates higher than those previously reported”.

Vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine will therefore be possible for people between 18 and 65, including “those with conditions that may increase the risk of developing severe forms of COVID-19” but “with the exception of extremely vulnerable individuals”. The decision of the Ministry of Health was taken following the opinion of the technical-scientific committee, AIFA (Italian Medicines Agency) and after the clarifications of the Superior Health Council which confirmed the ability of the vaccine to provoke an immune response even in people over the age of 55.
