The latest news about the exhibitors’ cancellations have advanced the decision of the organization, which was scheduled to hold a board of directors this Friday to address the issue.One of the most controversial issues is the cancellation costs, who takes care of them and if they are covered by insurers, according to industry sources.
The last companies that have decided to unsubscribe from the fair have been the operators, with Deutsche Telecom,Orange, whose first executive, Stéphane Richard, is both the chairman of the GSMA board; and British Telecom at the helm. Its decision has finally dynamited the objective of celebrating the fair. They had already announced their low signatures such as Amazon, Rakuten, Nokia, Ericsson, Sony, Facebook, Intel, AT&T, Vivo, LG are some of the big companies in the sector that had already announced their withdrawal.

Almost 500 million euros
The economic impact of the MWC was expected to be up to 492 million euros,with the creation of 14,100 temporary jobs. According to congress data, between 2006 and 2020 the total impact was 5,300 million euros and the temporary employment created would amount to up to 128,200 cases.
At the same time that the MWC was celebrated in Barcelona 4 Years from Now (4YFN), the lounge dedicated to the ‘start-ups’ and the YoMo program, dedicated to children. In this year’s edition, the number 14 of those held in Barcelona, it was planned to celebrate xSide, a space for creativity and music organized jointly with the Sonar festival, between February 24 and 27 for participants in the MWC and 4YFN, with the performance of DJs and leading artists in the world of electronic music such as Richie Hawtin.
