Ceuta, Apr 4 (EFE) .- The Ceuta National Police has paid tribute tonight to the two retired colleagues, both 74 years old, who have died in Ceuta due to the coronavirus, the only fatalities in the Ceuta city since it began the pandemic.

The tribute took place in the building in the neighborhood of Juan Carlos I where both lived with their families, and which remains sealed by the Local Police, without allowing anyone to enter or leave the building.

A dozen vehicles of the National Police, sounding their sirens and with the lights on, have been placed in a row and facing the building where the deceased resided and have stood firm as a sign of respect for the honorees.

The emotional event, which was joined by agents of the Local Police and the Civil Guard, ended with the hymn “Death is not the end” and a loud ovation to which the people who resided in the neighboring buildings that have followed the act from the balconies, as Efe has verified.

The two retired national policemen have been the first two victims of the coronavirus in Ceuta and both were very good friends.

The two remained in the ICU of the University Hospital of Ceuta until they died due to this virus, the first on March 27 and the second at midnight this past Friday.

The death of the two retired police officers has caused a huge feeling of sadness in the Ceuta Higher Police Headquarters, which has also seen five other components of it have tested positive for coronavirus. EFE
