The number of people who made purchases in the UK in November showed a "significant" drop from last year, retail researchers say.

The Springboard analysis company reported a 3.2% drop in the traffic of people in shopping centers, business parks and High Streets.

The figures showed that the effect of Black Friday was driving more online purchases over a longer period, the company said.

The decline was "indisputable evidence" that Black Friday had no benefits for physical stores, he added.

The launch pad said that it is expected to decline 4.2% year-on-year in December, a larger decline compared to the 3.5% decrease recorded in December 2017.

Springboard said that the UK political turmoil on Brexit also impacted buyers' buying decisions.

"As we head towards the top of the retail trade calendar, both retailers and consumers are in the midst of the greatest degree of uncertainty in recent times," said Mrs Wehrle.
