The number of birds per garden is continuously decreasing

Vienna – The “Citizen Science” campaign initiated by the organization Birdlife “Hour of the Winter Birds” should help to get an overview of the most common and most widespread bird species at the winter bird feeder. This year, a total of more than half a million birds were counted in Austria, which confirms an unfortunate trend: In recent years fewer birds have been observed per garden, the organization reported. Tits, nuthatches and woodpeckers in particular stayed away from the bird feeders this year. They preferred to stay outside of the settlement areas, partly because of the extremely high availability of tree seeds.
