On August 5, the premiere of the production “Bridges” is expected in the Round Hall of Valmiera Theater, the representatives of the theater said. This will be the premiere, which is expected from March 13, when due to the state of emergency declared in the country, it did not experience its meeting with the audience. The production is a stage version of director Georgi Surkov and playwright Madara Rutkevich, inspired by the film “Bridges of the Madison Area”.
The story takes place in the United States, in 1980, in Winterset, Iowa. Caroline and Michael return home to their mother Francesca’s funeral. Her request that her remains be cremated and the ashes scattered at Rouzman’s bridge instead of next to her father confuses Carolina and Michael, and they refuse to fulfill her mother’s enigmatic wish.
But the letter left by Francesca, in which she reveals to her two children a long-kept secret from the four days of the summer of 1965, transforms Caroline and Michael’s ideas of their mother and family, and looks at her own life in a very different light. a sincere and honest meeting both with themselves and with each other.
“What matters to us in this story is what happens to children when they learn their mother’s secret, and how their attitudes toward the past and their parents, and to themselves, change. Is their life the way they want it or the circumstances that created it. Let the children look at their lives again with their mother’s eyes, so that they have the strength to change it, ”comments director Georgy Surkov.
