It is a key act for the Popular Party. Not only because it serves as a prologue and rehearsal for the investiture session of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, but also because it will measure the sentiment of the street against the possible amnesty for the crimes of the process. The street rally that the popular people have called for Sunday, September 24 in the Plaza de Felipe II in Madrid is, therefore, a thermometer of expectations.
And those of the PP are summarized in a figure: 10.000 personas. As EL MUNDO has learned, the Madrid City Council technicians have already measured the capacity of the square for this specific event, and have calculated that to fill it there must be that many attendees, based on the square meters it occupies, and estimating that there would not be a great crowding.
That is the figure that the PP foresees today. “If it is surpassed it will be because there are many people from Madrid who decide to spontaneously go to the event,” say popular sources. The PP requested permission for an event of 5,000 people, but already plans to double it, and even “overflow” the square until it reaches the nearby Narváez street. “The goal is to exceed 10,000,” insists another of the officials consulted. “There are very good feelings, of success,” they add.
The presence of José María Aznar y Mariano Rajoy serves as an incentive for the call. Both will have their own speech at the rally. In addition, the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez Almeida, and the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will say a few words as a “greeting”, according to PP sources in Congress yesterday.
The highlight of the rally will be Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s speech, which will contain the main lines of his intervention at the investiture the following Tuesday, but the PP trusts that Ayuso will be the one to boost the number of attendees. “Ayuso is really encouraging people from Madrid to go, because the key is how many people from Madrid come,” they judge in the match.
