Armenia is ready to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, announced Prime Minister Nikolas Pashinyan. Not only that, he also announced Armenia’s possible withdrawal from the Russian-controlled Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
After many decades of recurring wars and conflicts over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian authorities announced a possible reconciliation with the transfer of this land to Azerbaijan.
“Armenia is ready to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan if the safety of the Armenian population is ensured,” N. Pashinian is quoted as saying by TASS.
He also stated about the possible withdrawal of Armenia from the CSTO. “If Armenia takes a de jure decision to withdraw from the CSTO, it will happen after Armenia determines that the CSTO has withdrawn from Armenia. Such a possibility exists if KSSO becomes an ineffective organization. Then we will be forced to solve our own security issues,” Armenian Prime Minister RBK was quoted as saying.
In the 2020s, the last major military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia lasted more than a month. About 8 thousand people died during the military conflict. people, most of them soldiers. Azerbaijan reported about 2.9 thousand the death of soldiers, and Armenians – 3.8 thousand. The war ended with the largely complete defeat of Armenian forces and their withdrawal from the disputed territories of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Yerevan then fiercely criticized the Russian-controlled KSSO organization, which did not react in any way to Azerbaijan’s attack. Azerbaijan is actively supported by NATO ally Turkey.
