The Reina Sofía de Benavente theater presents its new programming for the 2021 season with a large number of novelties for all types of audiences and styles. This year, the functions will be subject to the reduction of capacity, the sale of tickets only at the box office and the suspension of season tickets. The theater stage will once again host more than a dozen plays on its stage during the first four months of the year, this time making a clear commitment to performances recognized with the prestigious Max theater award.
“Buried lives” is one of the highlights of this season. The work is part of the Scenic Frontiers cycle. New proposals, new audiences that seek to bring the most innovative contemporary theater closer to lovers of the scene. It has the stamp of the playwright Juan Mayorga, one of the most important authors on the national scene, creator of titles such as The Boy in the Last Row. Buried Lives is the adaptation of the series of documentaries produced by the Ser chain in which the relatives of the disappeared during the Civil War will tell the story of their grandparents, parents … after years of silence.
The Wild Wind (Fedra and Medea in Cádiz) from the company Las chicas de Cádiz, will land at the Reina Sofía in March. The show directed by Ana López Segovia has been awarded as the Best Revelation Show in the XXIII edition of the Max Awards.
This season there will also be space for music, in the month of March the European Camerata of the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León will perform a concert located within its so-called Proximity 2020 cycle. This reduced format seeks to bring classical music to all the municipalities of the Community.
For the eleventh consecutive year, the Reina Sofía Theater once again hosts the Marathon of Young Talents Monologues to fill the stage with laughter and show the emerging monologues to the general public.
“ACROBAT AND HARLEQUIN”, THE PREMIERE OF THE SEASON FOR THE YOUNGEST
The Reina Sofía theater program opens in its new season with the children’s play Acrobat and Harlequin by the La Maquiné Company. The work has been awarded as the Best Children’s and Family Show of the year 2019 by the Feria de Castilla y León Award. Music and the best entertainment are guaranteed with this show directed by Joaquín Casanova.
Úniko, from Teatro Paraíso (from 6 years old) will arrive to see how the life of a young man named Paul changes after the arrival of a new member to his family. The piece has been awarded the National Award for Performing Arts for children and youth. On Sunday, February 28, those interested will have an appointment with this character who will help them understand the world around them.
The kids will be able to laugh out loud with this fun starring two friendly clowns. It is entitled Bricomances and children from 6 years old will be able to enjoy this hilarious show full of stumbles, mistakes that will show them the importance of teamwork through the world of DIY.
Tickets for all shows can only be obtained in advance at the Casa de la Cultura and at the Reina Sofía Theater box office on the same day of the performance.
