A group of Australian and Danish scientists has discovered which people are more susceptible to the development of schizophrenia. According to them, those born in winter or spring are more likely to suffer from this disease, reports Scientific Reports.

The findings of the researchers are based on the fact that such people have little vitamin D in the blood at birth, a consequence of the lack of sunlight that affects the mother during pregnancy.

Scientists have gathered information on 2602 inhabitants of Denmark. About half of the respondents suffered from schizophrenia and almost all were born in spring or winter. This information does not yet allow to talk confidently about the causal relationship, the authors of the new scientific work are inclined to this interpretation.

Previously, MIT researchers have found a particular region of the brain, whose stimulation makes humans or monkeys hardened by pessimists.
