COTTAGE COUNTRY, ON- The influence is coming to our area.
According to Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR), the first confirmed case of flu arrived in the region for the 2019-2020 flu season. Areas affected include Haliburton County, Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County.
According to the press release, Marjanne Rock, the director of health protection with the HKPR health unit, said that this year is not different from others and that the first case of flu usually appears in November.
The flu vaccine is recommended for children older than six months and for anyone who has not received the vaccine.
The health unit advises locals to wash their hands thoroughly and often, sneeze and cough up their sleeves, stay home from school if they are sick, eat well, get enough sleep and be physically active to avoid contracting ;influence.
Locals can get flu shots from their health care provider or pharmacy. The health unit also offers vaccine administration.
