Spanish cyclist Alex Aranburu won the second stage of the Around the Basque Country race after a separate escape. The 25-year-old Astana rider attacked six kilometers before the finish of a challenging, 154.8 km long route. He won 15 seconds ahead of teammate and compatriot Omar Frail and Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar from Slovenia.
In the overall standings, Aranburu moved to second place behind Vuelta champion Primož Roglič, who today finished sixth in the first group of pursuers. The Slovenian driver of the Jumbo-Visma stable, who won the opening time trial, has a five-second lead in the evaluation.
