GUANGZHOU, KOMPAS.com – A house in China has gone viral because it is flanked by an overpass or flyover.
The house owner refused to sell it to the government for 10 years.
The building is one of many examples of “nail houses” in China or “dingzihu“in Mandarin, where homeowners refuse compensation from developer for dismantling it.
Videos released by local media showed the house flanked by two-lane overpasses of the Haizhuyong Bridge, which recently opened in the metropolitan city of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
The one-story house measures 40 square meters and is located right in the middle of a four-lane overpass, Guangdong TV station reported.
The owner of the house, known by the last name Liang, said he did not want to move because the replacement house offered by the government was not in an ideal location.
He added that he was relaxed with the consequences he was facing now and did not think about what other people thought.
“You think this environment is bad, but I feel calm, liberating, fun and comfortable,” he was quoted as saying Daily Mail.
An insider told the station earlier that Mrs. Liang requested four apartments from the government, but she was only promised two.
Later in another interview recorded by Pear Video, Madame Liang claims the government offered her a replacement residence next to the morgue, and that is the reason she doesn’t want to move.
