The armed forces of Syria have completely freed the terrorists from the "Islamic State" (IG, banned in Russia) south of the country, reports SANA, citing the statement of the Supreme Command of the Syrian Army.
The military reported having released approximately 380 square meters from the control of the IG. km, in particular the area of the Al-Safa plateau, which they call "the last stronghold" of the IG. The Syrian army will continue to fight terrorism across the country, added to the command.
At the end of October, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that since the start of the Russian operation in Syria in 2015, more than 87,500 militants have been killed. According to him, during this period he managed to release over 95% of the territory of Syria. Shoigu added that the main populated areas were defeated by militants and that around 122 thousand objects belonging to the terrorists were destroyed by Russian aerospace forces.
