BEIRUT (Reuters) – The United States delivered over $ 16 million worth of laser bombs to Lebanese armed forces on Wednesday, demonstrating that what he said was "the firm and steady commitment" of Washington in the United States. Lebanese army.

The United States has provided the Lebanese military with more than $ 2.3 billion in aid since 2005, with the objective of supporting it as "the only and legitimate defender" of a country where Hezbollah, heavily armed and supported by Iran, it holds the greatest power.

A statement from the US Embassy in Beirut said that the missiles, delivered in a US military transport plane, were a key component for a previously supplied A-29 Super Tucano aircraft fleet.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, during a visit to Lebanon this week, reiterated his long offer of support for the Lebanese heir, but said that Lebanon must first show "the desire" to accept it.

The leader of Hezbollah, which is listed as a terrorist group from Washington, said last week that he was ready to secure the air defense systems for the Lebanese army from Iran and to bring it "whatever he wants being the strongest army in the region ".

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah of Hezbollah asked why Lebanon is "ignoring" Iran while "offering our neck to others" – an obvious reference to the United States, which has strengthened sanctions against its group.

The direct role of Hezbollah in the government has expanded into the new government led by the prime minister backed by the West Saad al-Hariri, taking control of three portfolios including the health ministry, which has a considerable budget.
