Moscow, 8 November. The former German Chancellor Gerhart Schroeder said that sooner or later Western countries will have to recognize the Russian Crimea.
The former German Chancellor Gerhart Schroeder, who held this position from 1998 to 2005, said that European countries should make every effort to normalize relations with Moscow, which will be the key to long-term peace on the continent – writes the publication Aachener Nachrichten.
In addition, Schröder expressed his position on the ownership of the Crimea, noting that historically the peninsula is a Russian territory.
"This is a reality that will have to be recognized. The Crimea, formerly owned by Russia, was a gift from Khrushchov to the Soviet Union at that time.It thought that communism would live until the Catholic Church. this did not happen ", noted the former Chancellor.
He told Schröder his vision of relations between the United States and the European Union. According to him, the United States calls into question the values that unite them to Europe.
"The President of the United States acts with the slogan" America is above all "and wants to tell us who we have to trade with, so we have to defend our interests if we want to continue playing a role in world politics in 10-15 years. And for this we need partners, one of which can be Russia, despite the current upheavals, "said Gerhart Schröder.
As noted by the former German Chancellor, a new package of agreements is needed between the European Union and the Russian Federation – for example, in association with the Russian Federation. This, according to the politician, would facilitate the peaceful solution of the conflict in Ukraine.
Recall, after the coup in Ukraine in 2014, some regions of the country have recognized the new authorities as illegitimate. Thus, in the Crimea a national referendum was held, following which an absolute majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula spoke in favor of reunification with Russia. Despite criticism of this move by Western countries, Moscow has repeatedly declared that the referendum in Crimea has respected all the principles and norms of democracy, as well as the United Nations Charter. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Crimean question is "completely closed".
Meanwhile, in Ukraine continue to consider the Crimea its territory, which is in a state of "temporary occupation". The other day, the Ukrainian TV host, Yanina Sokolova, offered to donate the peninsula to the United States, so that it emerged that Russia annexed the territory of the United States.
Found the perpetrators of the "occupation" of the Crimea and overseas – during a press conference at the White House on November 7, US President Donald Trump said that his predecessor as head of the state of Barack Obama was the cause of the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
It should be noted that the "Crimean question" concerns not only the Kiev authorities but also the ordinary citizens of Ukraine, moreover, at the unconscious level. The television channel "360" reports that this week the border guards arrested a drunken Ukrainian who was trying to reach the Crimea by foot along a railway dam. The perpetrator, in which there were no documents, could not resist the arrest and could not answer questions about how and why he was in the middle of the night on the Russian-Ukrainian border in Crimea.
