Three activists from the environmental organization Futuro Vegetal have managed to circumvent the security measures and sneak onto the runway at Ibiza airport early this morning, spraying a private jet with a paint extinguisher and sticking to it. All have ended up detained by the Civil Guard.

Although, according to Futuro Vegetal, their action forced the halt of all air traffic at the airport, Aena denies that they have caused any incident.

The activists demand that the Government of Spain divert the subsidies that it currently allocates to livestock to the promotion of socially and ecologically responsible alternatives based on vegetables, according to Futuro Vegetal in a statement.

The action, they say, is part of the campaign Jets and yachts, the party’s over, summoned by the platform Ibiza Rebelsmade up of different local climate organizations to demand a ban on private jets and the elimination of luxury emissions.

A few days ago, activists from Futuro Vegetal and Extinction Rebellion participated in a protest at the Blue Marlin ‘beach club’ in Cala Jondal, also on the island of Ibiza, to warn of the “incompatibility of sustaining the lifestyle of the megalomaniacs and address the climate crisis.
