With the beautiful days, the mosquitoes return. Vendée is classified as a department where the tiger mosquito is declared established and active.

Increasingly present in France, the tiger mosquito is also very active in Vendée. At 1er May 2020, it is established in 58 departments, including Vendée and the Loire Atlantique. In Vendée, the tiger mosquito has been declared implanted since 2015. The mosquito information site Vigilance mosquito, backed by a brand of mosquito repellent – has just published a map of the departments’ exposure to tiger mosquitoes . The Vendée appears as a department where the tiger mosquito is “officially declared established and active”. In 2020, 7 new departments will be added to the list: the Vienna, the Two Sevres, the Charente, the Expensive, the Loire Atlantique, the Yvelines and the Haute-Savoie.

The tiger mosquito has arrived in France since 2004. In some cases, it can be a vector of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika.
A presence to report
We recognize the tiger mosquito by its body and its black and white striped legs. Its size is also larger than the common mosquito. It is also slower and less noisy than the common mosquito, and females only bite during the day.
