“Tinghir-Jerusalem” awarded in Rome: The APM Award 2021 goes to K. Hachkar

This documentary, which retraces the journey of the Jewish community which left Tinghir in the years 1950-1960, was designated by the PAM “Testament for the promotion of peace and coexistence” in the Mediterranean.
K. Hachkar transports the public, through this film, to the crossroads of cultures and makes resonate the songs, the voices and the stories of this double identity shared between Jews and Muslims in his hometown.
Speaking on this occasion, K. Hachkar welcomed this distinction in the Italian Senate, which coincides with the Independence Day of the Kingdom, indicating that this documentary represents a “message of tolerance” and a “real hymn” to the otherness, to living together and to the plural identities of Morocco.
The filmmaker underlined “the responsibility of artists to promote brotherhood between peoples and to fight relentlessly racist and anti-Semitic discourse”, welcoming the support of the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans residing abroad and of the Council of Moroccan community abroad.
Tinghir-Jerusalem has already received several awards over its screenings at festivals, notably in Canada, France, Belgium, Mexico and the USA.
