Totalcar – Magazine – Hyundai Ioniq 5 is upgraded with a larger battery

With this year’s model upgrade, Hyundai’s electric car will also receive the larger 77.4 kWh battery pack already known from the Kia EV6. This replaces the previous 72.6 kWh and brings some range and performance increases for the more expensive versions of the Ioniq 5.

With the new battery, the power of the rear-wheel drive version will increase from 217 to 228 hp, and that of the all-wheel drive version from 306 to 325 hp. This brings a tenth reduction in acceleration times to 100 km / h: the new values are 7.3 and 5.1 seconds, respectively. Of course, the range also increases somewhat: with the new battery, rear-wheel drive, the manufacturer gives 507 km according to the WLTP cycle, which is a noticeable improvement over the previous 481 km.

Replacing a larger battery isn’t the only change that can make the Ioniq 5 more attractive. A battery conditioning function will be available for the new version, which will try to bring the battery pack to the theoretically ideal temperature before fast charging. This is activated when a quick charger is selected in the navigation system and starts cooling or heating the battery on the way there to improve the available charging speed.

Also new is that the model will be available at Hyundai for the first time with camera mirror replacement: both the center and two side mirrors will be replaceable.
