Jeep built on Fiat technology Renegade and Compass it will also be available in the future with a new e-hybrid drive system. The surprise is that the powertrain is based on a hitherto unknown 1.5-liter petrol engine.
It appears to be a new member of Fiat’s relatively newly developed engine family, known as GSE or Firefly. The Miller-cycle, one-and-a-half-liter turbo engine delivers 130 horsepower and 240 Nm and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The system is also equipped with a 20-horsepower electric motor that can drive the car on its own at low speeds and recover some of the car’s kinetic energy when decelerating, which is expected to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15% compared to previous petrol versions.
The new Jeep e-hybrid models will be available at home from January 21, with a Renegare base price of HUF 9.45 million and a Compass base price of HUF 11.38 million.
