WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump announced his first recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and include the wife of a prominent Republican Party donor, the longtime Republican Senator in US history, Elvis Presley and Babe Ruth.
Trump will also recognize posthumously the late Supreme Court judge Antonin Scalia.
The medals will go to Miriam Adelson, a doctor and wife of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, a Republican donor; The Utah senator, Orrin Hatch, who retires after more than 41 years in the United States Senate; the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach and Alan Page, who started a legal career after leaving the NFL.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest honor for a civilian.
