Twitter is testing a feature that allows users to set who can reply to their tweets, Twitter writes in a blog post on Wednesday. Users can indicate this before posting a tweet.
The new feature gives users three options before posting a tweet. They can choose to have everyone comment on it, only people who follow them, or only people mentioned in the tweet. If no one is mentioned in the tweet, no one can respond to the tweet.
In the last two cases, the tweet is labeled and the reply icon turns gray. That should make it clear to people that they cannot respond under the tweet. They can still view, retweet and like this tweet.
Twitter will test the feature among a small percentage of users worldwide. The tweets of the users who are part of the test can be viewed by anyone with a Twitter account.
