Malaise is a state of weakness, fatigue and lethargy.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Lecturer who is also an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist at the Academic Hospital of Gadjah Mada University (UGM RSA) Anton Sony Wibowo said malaise or a weak, tired and lethargic condition can be a mild symptom of a Covid-19 infection.
“This malaise appears as the body’s immune response to infection,” he said in a written statement, Tuesday (15/9).
He said malaise did not only appear as a symptom of Covid-19. This symptom is also often found in other diseases caused by infections (infectious diseases) such as other respiratory viral infections, bacterial infections or hormonal disorders.
According to him, malaise is a symptom similar to fatigue or fatigue. However, there is a difference between malaise and fatigue.
“Fatigue tends to be more physically related,” said the lecturer at the Department of ENT-KL, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK) UGM.
He explained that malaise occurs as a form of the body’s immune response or inflammation. Meanwhile, fatigue is more towards a feeling of lack of energy which can be related to certain diseases such as diabetes, anemia, heart disease, and others.
“If you feel malaise and there are other symptoms or you have a history of close contact with a Covid-19 patient, you should immediately go to the hospital,” said Anton.
