Covenant unnatural in a town in the province of Caceres. The councilors of United by Montehermoso (coalition formed by Unidas Podemos and Izquierda Unida) have reached a governance agreement with Vox to ensure in this way the “stability” of the City Council throughout the legislature. The mayor has been at the head of the government since last May Rosa Isabel Garrido, which belongs to Izquierda Unida, and which governed as a minority. The bad relations with the PSOE in this town made him fear that he would be evicted from the municipal baton through a motion of censure, so he preferred to make an agreement with the two representatives of Vox, who have become part of his government team.
The results of the last municipal elections in this town (about 5,600 inhabitants) left the Mayor’s Office up in the air because no party achieved an absolute majority and no agreement was reached. Unidas por Montehermoso achieved five councilors (1,127 votes), four for the PSOE (994) -one of them is already a non-attached councillor-, two were for PP (625) and another two for Vox (506). Uncertainty and bad relations between the municipal government and the previous mayor, from the PSOE, were the characteristics in these first months of the legislature.
So, fearing the departure of the government, last Monday the agreement was signed that crosses ideological borders, and which was reflected in the last Municipal Plenary Session, where it was also approved that the two Vox councilors (Blanca Luz Tortillo y Victor Manuel Martin) become part-time releaseees (they will earn about 900 euros per month in 14 installments). In this way, they will be integrated into the Unidas por Montehermoso government team, with the competencies of Citizen Security and Forest and Road Management.
Unidas por Montehermoso has argued that the “natural alliance” with the local PSOE for an agreement that would make governability possible this legislature “became unviable both due to the practices in his previous term of the former mayor, Carlos Labradoras well as for the practices of harassment and demolition that it has carried out in these first 100 days of the current government, with the consequent lack of necessary trust, which joint governance needs.” In a statement, this formation emphasizes that “given the opposition practices fierce of the local PSOE, which even harms the interest of the neighbors, we decided to increase our support in the municipal plenary session, to achieve our measures in a democratic way and not exclusively through Mayoral decrees.
Furthermore, they point out that their decision to agree with Vox has come after “the will of Carlos Labrador and the Socialist Group to try to form a government with the PP became clear, a scenario that would go against the majority will that the voters gave us.” of Montehermoso with 34.21% support”.
