Decision of the director of LKL referees: The referees were wrong in the confrontation between Pasvalys and Kėdainiai teams
The director of LKL judges Algimantas Pavilonis reviewed and analyzed it on January 10, 2022. The video of the Betsafe-LKL championship match between Pasvalys Pieno Žvaigždės and Kėdainiai Nevėžio-Optibet found that the judges who made the decisions at the end of the match were wrong.
Kėdainiai team player with 3 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter of the match “Milk Stars” – “Nevėžis-Optibet” T.J.Starksas rushed and danced to throw the basket. A defensive player for Pasvalys Markellis Johnson right-handed, the first step was to clear the ball with the first hand, but then unacceptably hit the left attacker’s arm. In this case, the referees had to record the player’s foul.
After this contact, the striker lost control of the ball and released it from his hands, but already touched the floor with his feet. In this case, the judges had to record the offending rule of violation for the attacker. If the ball were released while the striker was still in the air, there would be no injury.
TJStarks’ points became decisive – Kėdainiai won 88:87.
“It simply came to our notice then. Unfortunately, the rules for using the emergency replay system in this case only allowed to adjust the remaining time of the match (from 2.8 to 3.3 seconds), ”commented A. Pavilonis, Director of LKL Judges.
“The judges made a mistake in judging this episode. Judges responsible for the error will be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of the LKL. ”
The following trio of arbitrators judged the match: Saulius Račys, Gvidas Gedvilas, Šarūnas Gabrilavičius.
