Dominic Thiem fulfilled his lifelong dream in the night from Sunday to Monday. As the second Austrian after Thomas Muster, who triumphed in Paris in 1995, Austria’s superstar won a Grand Slam title. Like the Styrian at the age of 27.
In the final of the US Open in New York, the Lower Austrian lived up to his role as a favorite, but only after a real tennis thriller. After four hours of playing time he had finished, defeated the German Alexander Zverev after a rigorous false start 2: 6, 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 3 and 7: 6 (6) and was allowed to hit the floor of the Arthur Ashe Stadium drop.
Of course he’s already got up again. He arrived at Vienna Airport on Tuesday. Now he is answering journalists’ questions at the UniCredit Center at Kaiserwasser.
