KOMPAS.com – Application for sharing short videos, TikTok, will soon be blocked in the U.S.
Previously, India had blocked the application in early July.
In front of the media crew at Air Force One on a flight from Florida to Washington, Presiden AS Donald Trump announced plans to ban TikTok video applications in the superpower.
End of 2019, the US government considers TikTok a risk to the country’s security, because of the potential threat to intelligence and privacy issues.
According to a CNBC report, Trump told reporters that when it came to TikTok, he banned the application in the US, and described his actions as “terminating” against TikTok.
“I have that authority. I can do it with an executive order,” Trump said.
He also responded to the latest rumor that Microsoft is in negotiations to buy the TikTok application from its parent company, ByteDance.
Trump clarified that he opposed the acquisition.
Since its re-launch in 2017, the popularity of the TikTok application is fairly fast, especially during the isolation period due to the corona virus pandemic.
The application was downloaded 2 billion in April, which affected the value of Bytedance from 50 billion US dollars (around Rp. 735 trillion) to 100 billion US dollars (Rp. 1.4 quadrillion).
Of course, an increase in the value of Bytedance is a threat to the administration of the US President. However, the executive has not explained in detail how the TikTok blocking will be enforced.
