Thomas van den Belt was unable to grab the title in the Kitchen Champion Division in his last match for PEC Zwolle. For the midfielder himself, it also meant his last game for PEC. Van den Belt will play in a Feyenoord shirt next season. After the match against Helmond Sport, the midfielder gives the opposite ESPN his last interview in blue and white.
“I started here as a little boy, went through all of my childhood, reached the first team and finally behaved all together. I think we can all be proud together.”, says Van den Belt. The midfielder is disappointed that he did not win the title with PEC Zwolle, but is proud of his team that promotion was achieved four rounds before the end. “We can all look back on a good season.”
Despite missing out on the title, Van den Belt can still count on a tribute for the team. Van den Belt clearly states that the tribute he will receive will not be as large as Feyenoord’s. “That will not be surpassed”, the midfielder clearly concludes. “It’s going to be a bit crazy anyway, because in the end you have a kind of celebration when you would have preferred to become champion.” Still, Van den Belt is looking forward to the party, which can be regarded as the end of an era for him. “I hope it will be a great party in which we can all look back on a nice closing for everyone, for the guys who are leaving and personally for me too.”
Van den Belt can personally look back on a good season. The midfielder was good for 16 goals and 8 assists in 35 games in the KKD. The midfielder signed a four-year deal with Feyenoord at the end of March.
