An expert LEADING doctor warns that a vegan diet can lead to serious health problems including epilepsy and developmental disorders.
Chief physician Allan M. Lund of the Copenhagen Rigshospitalet says that vegan food can have serious consequences and has joined a heated debate in Denmark on the appropriateness of an increasing number of families feeding their children on a vegan diet .
The problem is that poor food, which needs the addition of vitamin B12, can have serious consequences for children and many who had followed a vegan diet were treated at the medical center.
The dott. Lund told a local television channel: "Such a diet can lead to the development of different brain symptoms – with muscle weakness, poor contact and epilepsy and, in the long run, possibly mental retardation".
He added that parents should not completely remove meat, eggs and dairy products from the diet of young children without consulting a dietician.
