Virgin Australia cancels the route from Perth to Geraldton, citing the drop in customers

Virgin Australia canceled the route from Perth to Geraldton, citing a decline in customer numbers for the decision.

A spokesman for Virgin Australia Regional Airlines said the flights between Perth and Geraldton will end on 21 July.

"This follows a reduction in services in January, which was activated to stimulate customer demand but did not improve performance as expected," the spokesman said.

"Virgin Australia Regional Airlines will continue to manage charter services to and from Geraldton, so our aircraft will still be seen at the airport from time to time."

The last service will operate Sunday 21 July from Perth to Geraldton as VA1791 and will return from Geraldton to Perth as VA1790.

Customers with flights booked after this date will be offered a full refund, including Velocity points or a travel bank with cancellation fees.

"Withdrawing from any path is never our preference, however the industry has seen a decline in passenger volumes on this route in recent years, as well as a reduction in the number of customers wishing to fly," the spokesman said. .

"Virgin Australia is engaged in the WA market and we currently fly to seven intrastate destinations, as well as offering passengers a series of national and international connections".
