Vitesse wants to appoint Thomas Letsch as the new trainer. According to various Dutch media, the Arnhemmers are in far-reaching negotiations with the 51-year-old German.
VI, The Telegraph and the AD report that the brand new technical director Johannes Spors came to Letsch in his search. The two know each other from the Red Bull circuit. Spors was head of scouting at RB Leipzig between 2015 and 2018 and Letsch was an interim trainer at Red Bull Salzburg in 2015.
Letsch worked in various positions from 2012 to 2015, including assistant to PSV’s new trainer Roger Schmidt, who worked for Salzburg. He chose to stand on his own two feet at FC Liefering in 2015 and was also ultimately responsible at Erzgebirge Aue and Austria Wien. He is currently without a club.
Vitesse decided earlier this week not to continue with Edward Sturing. The 56-year-old Gelderlander is the interim coach until the end of next month – he succeeded Leonid Slutsky in December – and then probably continues in another role at the club. He will probably become the head of youth training.
Control was disappointed by the decision of Spors, who would like to see some other things in the playing style. “I am disappointed that I did not become one, but that is also up to me. When I am asked, I am someone who will immediately think about how I will see the team next season,” he told NU.nl.
Vitesse will no longer be in action this season because the Eredivisie has been suspended due to the corona crisis. The yellow-black formation finishes seventh and will therefore not be released in Europe next season. The new year will probably not start until September.
