The buyer of a new medium-sized crossover for 1.6-2.4 million rubles is enough to choose even on the non-dazzling Russian market. One of the most common options is the Mitsubishi Outlander, and we are exploring its slightly updated versions on the streets of Tomsk and the surrounding area. Modified bumpers, decorative door trims, more expensive rims and cars have appeared as new spoilers. Paying extra for the engine is more powerful, you get a more solid product.
The 167-stroke all-wheel drive also has a lightweight steering wheel with a recalibrated electric booster, but a reactive accelerator is amazing from the first few meters. The drive quickly selects a suitable transmission ratio, preventing the engine from hanging on a note. The capacities of an aspirated 2,4 are sufficient to merge in a lively flow, the overtaking on a country road is given without nervousness. It is necessary to accelerate more abruptly: grasp the shift levers, if supplied with a complete set. And the box here reacts to them even faster than the "automatic" Outlander GT.
The six-cylinder tip model offers greater ease of acceleration, and 5000 rpm pleases with a thoroughbred sound. But the main gain in dynamics compared to 2.4 no. The passport acceleration time at 100 km / h is better than almost two seconds (10.5 sec against 8.7), but the family crossover does not allow you to concentrate on this. The "automatic", imperceptible to partial loads, takes a break at every kickdown, so for an intense acceleration in movement it is better to preselect the reduced one. Generally, if you drive safely, you do not need a three-liter Outlander.
It makes sense to spend 330 thousand rubles more for a GT if you're interested in an advanced all-wheel drive S-AWC. Compared to the standard transmission, this is complemented by a GKN electronically controlled front differential lock. The controller, under the control of another software, polls multiple sensors and activates the block together with the selective braking of the wheels.
In civilian regimes, the influence of the S-AWC is not obvious, but it feels at the limit. Despite the heavy engine, it is more interesting and easier for me to play on the asphalt. In turn, bring more speed, the risk of demolition is lower. The journalists' tests say that in winter, the blockade can, on the contrary, force the Outlanders to plow under the effort. The shock absorbers have been updated for the entire Outlander line for better fluidity with no haste. However, on the small frame irregularities it is still hard and on medium shakes, although this does not cause discomfort. As the speed increases, the agitation does not progress and the little things become invisible. It is comfortable to maintain 60 km / h on the primer, and only large holes force the suspension to close on the rebound with a characteristic roar.
In other situations, the crossover is silent: noise isolation is another aspect of the changes during the restyling. The city does not bother the Bridgestone studded tires on the cobblestones. Aerodynamic noises start after 110 km / h. What is important, the improvement of driving comfort and the optimization of the chassis concern all the changes, so Outlander can strengthen the already good positions in the segment. By the end of September, Outlander entered the top three bestsellers with a result of 17,266 cars, losing against the six thousand leading Toyota RAV4 units sold.
It is still one of the longest cars in the class (although the pitch dimensions are ordinary), and here the V6 engines are rare. But the top model is the conditional demand, and "much of the body" in the case of a two-liter engine means slow dynamics. For a family car, cabin hospitality is important, and at least one spacious Kodiaq (sixth in the segment) immediately comes to mind. And the Mazda CX-5 (fifth in class) or the Volkswagen Tiguan (in second place) for comparable money like with more modern and sophisticated interiors.
