6 December 2018 – If we own a old smartphone, so dated that it no longer receives updates to the operating system, it is possible that since January 2019 we will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. The messaging platform owned by Facebook, in fact, has announced that it will no longer release its app for some models that are too old.
This is not the first time that WhatsApp eliminates compatibility on some older devices. In fact, already in 2017, the famous application for messaging was become unusable on smartphones deemed obsolete. The purpose of this block is to avoid users security flaws present on non-updated operating systems that could put the data entered on WhatsApp, such as conversations, photos, videos and shared documents to the sedan. But blocking WhatsApp on old smartphones is also necessary to avoid continuous slowdowns and bugs because of the low performance of a device that can not make the best use to users of the latest features implemented by the messaging app.
Which smartphones will be deleted from WhatsApp
As of January 1, 2019, WhatsApp will stop running on all devices Android with version of the operating system 2.3.7 or earlier. As regards the iPhone instead it will be considered incompatible with WhatsApp all the devices that use the version of the operating system iOS 7 or lower. In addition to Android and iPhone, from the first of January WhatsApp will not even turn up anymore Windows Phone 8.0, on BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10. Who owns one of these phones basically has two options. Update the operating system, if possible, or change device if you want to continue using WhatsApp. But what happens to the WhatsApp apps installed on these devices? There are two scenarios: either they will stop working permanently or they will work but without most of the features introduced by WhatsApp recently, such as the stickers or group video calls.
How to find out which OS we are using
Not everyone knows what version of the operating system they are using on their smartphone, especially if they have been on the phone for a long time and have not cared much about updating it. PTo find out which Android version is installed on our phone we have to go to Settings and then to Info on the phone where we will find all the details of our device. If we own an iPhone instead we always go to Settings, then to the General entry and finally to Software Update where we will be shown the iOS version we are using and any updates available.
