The White House said Thursday that Russian authorities are executing some of their own soldiers for not following orders on the battlefield in Ukraine.

“We have information that the Russian Army has been executing soldiers who refuse to follow orders,” the spokesman for the US Government’s National Security Council, John Kirby, said during a press conference.

Kirby added that some Russian commanders have threatened to execute entire units if they retreat in the face of Ukrainian artillery fire.

The spokesperson suggested that the news is a symptom of how badly the country is doing in its invasion of Ukrainebut warned that Moscow still has important offensive capabilities and could achieve victories in the coming weeks.

Kirby’s words come on the same day that Washington announced a new military aid package for Ukrainethis time valued at 150 million dollars (about 142 million euros), which includes air defense equipment and tanks
