(ANSA) – ROME, 02 SEP – The President of the United States, Donald Trump, jokingly told former White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders to go and see the leader Kim Jong-un in North Korea after he squeezed them the eye during the Singapore summit in 2018.
Sanders herself tells it in a memoir of her time alongside Trump that will be released next Tuesday, according to reports from the Guardian which has obtained a copy. In the book, entitled ‘Speaking for Myself’, Sanders remembers looking up at the summit and “noticed that Kim was staring at me. I was stunned. I looked down quickly and kept taking notes.” And he continues: “…
All I could think was, ‘What happened? Surely Kim Jong-un didn’t just look at me. “
Later, aboard the presidential limo on the way to the airport, Sanders told the incident to Trump and his then chief of staff John Kelly. “Kim Jong-un tried with you!” Was Trump’s reply: “He did! He tried with you, ca …!”. Kelly supported the president, who jokingly said, “Well, Sarah, that solves everything. You go to North Korea, do it for the team! You will miss your husband and your children, but you will be a hero for your country!” . And the president and his cabinet chief laughed out loud. (HANDLE).
