Yankees to pull minor league affiliates out of Trenton and Staten Island

NEW YORK – The New York Yankees will move their minor league affiliate teams out of Staten Island and Trenton, NJ, in 2021 as part of a shakeup that is affecting major league teams.

The Yankees Double-A team in Trenton will move to Somerset, New Jersey. The Class A club that had been on Staten Island since 1999 will move upstate to the Hudson Valley, which was previously an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Triple-A team at Scranton / Wilkes-Barre, which was the Yankees’ alternate training site during the pandemic-shortened season, will continue to be New York’s primary affiliate. The Tampa affiliate team that had been in the Florida State League in Class A high will change to Class A low.

The Yankees will also maintain a Gulf Coast League team in Tampa and a club in the Dominican Summer League. The Class A team in Charleston and the Pulaski of the Rookie League will not be affiliated with the Yankees next year.
