Young vaccine advocates in senior disguise arrested in Mexico | Abroad

The men, 30 and 35, also had their eyebrows painted white. They went to a vaccination center in Mexico City two weeks ago, carrying fake IDs. The news of the arrests was brought to a press conference on Wednesday by Claudia Sheinbaum, the mayor of the Mexican capital.

The men ultimately succeeded. So far in Mexico, only healthcare workers, some teachers and people over 60 have their turn for a vaccination against the corona virus. The impostors eventually ran into the lamp because their voices made them suspicious. They were eventually arrested. A criminal investigation into the two is currently underway for the forged identity documents.

To date, some 9.7 million doses of corona vaccine have been administered in Mexico. Just over 1.3 million Mexicans, about 1 percent of the population, have already been fully vaccinated. Mexico is also facing a scarcity of vaccines. The country previously accused wealthy Western countries of “stealing vaccines.” The pharmaceutical regulator has issued emergency approvals for six different corona vaccines.

Mexico has the highest number of corona deaths after the United States and Brazil. So far, more than 205,000 people in the country have died from Covid-19. Due to the limited testing capacity, the death toll is probably much higher in reality.
