It was the great unknown. A secret that was kept under lock and key for security reasons. But the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, landed early in the morning in Granada to participate in the summit of leaders of the European Political Community and the EU, which is being held within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. Dressed in his characteristic green t-shirt. This is Zelensky’s first visit to Spain and represents a boost to the main milestone of the Spanish mandate. Pedro Sánchez, in fact, kicked off the Spanish Presidency with a visit to kyiv.
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting this Thursday morning, which lasted around half an hour, in which they addressed the demand for Ukraine to have more military material to face the Russian offensive that is expected with the arrival of winter. In this sense, Sánchez promised the president of Ukraine six Hawk and anti-drone missile launchers, as well as specialized training in this area for Ukrainian soldiers, and new demining equipment.
With this promise, the number of Hawk launchers that Spain will give to Ukraine rises to 12. On November 3, 2022, four Hawk missile launchers from the Army. A few days later, on November 10, two more Hawk missile launchers were added. Thus, in total, if this last promise is fulfilled, the total number rises to 12.
Government sources recall that here, in Granada, Zelensky has reported at least 49 deaths in a Russian bombing in Groza, a town in the Kharkiv region. And they add that these launchers will also serve to protect the granary corridor, to shield their exit towards Europe.
Regarding demining, a few days ago, within the framework of the meeting of foreign ministers in kyiv, the minister Jose Manuel Albaresrevealed a new donation that includes two armored ambulances and a new contribution of 1.5 million euros for demining.
